Miguel was cooking again tonight, because they were out of leftovers, so it was that or eat Rosa's cooking. More to the point, that or get Rosa's disappointed looks as she cooked, which wasn't what he was after tonight.
Unfortunately, no matter what he was after, the multiverse had other plans. He was in the middle of sauteeing when a loud, noisy portal showed up in the middle of the kitchen. Miguel startled and tried to back away from it, but it pulled at him - he threw out webs, but all that did was pull down the pan and nearly the refrigerator, rocking it enough that it opened and a few bottles spilled out. His talons dug into the floor, but no matter what he did, the portal pulled him closer, until it sucked him out of the apartment and into a whirl of multicolored webs and weird, disorienting dots.
After a moment, it spat him out onto a street. He spun to his feet, shaking off the disorientation and looking around. He squinted, then turned to find a street sign.
He frowned. It wasn't his, but he'd been to the modern one a few times. "New York?"
